Is counselling completely confidential?
There are some exceptional circumstances when it may be necessary to contact another agency. These include:
• Where there is a clinical reason to share information with other professionals and you have agreed.
• Where keeping confidentiality risks serious harm to you or another.
• Where the law requires disclosure.
How long are the sessions?
Counselling sessions are usually 50 minutes long. Sometimes it is beneficial to plan and agree longer sessions.
How frequent are sessions?
There are no set rules; however clients generally wish to be seen weekly or bi-weekly, depending on the issues they are working with. For some, longer periods between sessions are appropriate. It is always led by the clients’ wishes.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on the issues and the depth of work that the client wishes to engage in. Frequent reviews will ensure that both client and counsellor keep an ending in sight.
What happens if I can’t make it to a session?
Unless there are exceptional circumstances, a session cancelled with less than 48hours notice will be charged at the session rate.
